Will Will Smith lose the Oscar because of Chris Rock's slap? The academy replied
Oscar-nominated actor Will Smith, 53, slapped Chris Rock after he made fun of his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's hair.
The incident occurred when Rock ridiculed Jada's hair appearance, calling her "Je Ee Jane" in reference to a film starring Demi Moore, who was shaved.
Then Smith rose from the audience and slapped Rock, surprising Rock and saying, "Will Smith hit me."
Then Smith returned to his seat and said loudly, "Don't say my wife's name."
Smith won an Academy Award for his role in "King Richard", where he portrayed the role of the father of tennis players Venus and Serena Williams.
Smith tried to defend himself in his victory speech, saying, "Love makes you do crazy things."
"I apologize to the academy and I want to apologize to my fellow candidates. This is a beautiful moment," Smith added, crying, but he did not offer an apology to Rock.
