Sony announces the next Xperia phone on April 14th
Sony announced on the Sony Xperia channel banner on the YouTube platform that the next Xperia event will be held on April 14th.
The sign states that there is an announcement for a new product happening at 10:30 PM KSA.
The sign does not offer any hints about the product that is supposed to be unveiled, but there are some rumors circulating about the new flagship phone Xperia 1 III.
- The flagship Xperia 1 III is supposed to come with a 5x or 10x Periscope zoom lens, and the special Periscope lens is manufactured in-house via Sony's Cyber-shot division.
- The flagship device features a 64MP wide-angle main camera lens, which is accompanied by a 12MP ultra-wide angle sensor.
- In addition to the expected camera specifications, the device is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 processor, coupled with 12/16 GB RAM and 256/512 GB internal storage.
- There is a 6.5-inch 4K OLED screen that supports HDR, 10-bit color, 120Hz refresh rates, and an aspect ratio of 21: 9.
Sony was the first to adopt this aspect ratio format, and this ratio has become a distinct feature across Xperia phones, as the longer the screen, the greater the viewing area.
Other specifications include a 5000 mAh battery that supports 65W fast charging and an SD slot.
The information also revolves around the possible return of the Xperia Compact, which could act as the answer from Android to the iPhone Mini.
The 2021 version of the Compact phone is supposed to come with a 5.5-inch screen, which is slightly larger than the iPhone Mini screen.
The last time Sony released a Compact-branded phone was in 2018, although it uses the word to market the Xperia 5 II with its 6.1-inch screen, which is roughly the same size as the iPhone 12 Pro or Galaxy S21.
And both would-be phones - the Xperia 1 III and Xperia Compact - are rumored to come with a headphone jack.
