EasyDNS begins accepting Dogecoin as a payment method
EasyDNS, the Canadian Internet Service Provider that provides DNS and web hosting services and operates a mail service called EasyMail, has become the first member of ICANN to accept the Dogecoin cryptocurrency as a method of payment.
- In a statement, the Canadian company said: Continuing our tradition of being cryptocurrency pioneers, we are now accepting Dogecoin payments for all services.
- The statement stated that the service provider was the first to embrace the various cryptocurrencies that are currently booming in the market.
- We were the first ICANN member to accept Bitcoin, the first to accept Ethereum, the first to accept Litecoin, and now we accept Dogecoin.
- This is a big gain for the cryptocurrency which has rallied rapidly in the market this week.
- The company made a sarcastic note to Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, who is considered a staunch supporter of the digital currency.
- The statement included a tweet by Elon Musk about the Dogecoin coin, and the company said: Remember who was there first, who wasn't this guy.
- Dogecoin's value is up nearly 400 percent in the past week, thanks to some encrypted and unencrypted tweets from the likes of Musk.
- Following this announcement, Canadian Internet Service Provider EasyDNS is joining the list of companies that have groomed to use Dogecoin in the recent past.
- One of the first to do so was billionaire businessman Mark Cuban, who announced in March that his National Basketball Association team, the Dallas Mavericks, was accepting Dogecoin as payment for tickets and merchandise.
- On April 14, Cobain provided his Twitter followers with an update on how things were going and said: FYI, sales of the Dallas Mavericks via Dogecoin have increased by 550 percentage points over the past month, and we have now sold more than 122,000 Dogecoin merchandise, and we will never sell the coin.
- And Dogecoin found additional acceptance when cryptocurrency provider CoinFlip made digital currency available for purchase at 1,800 ATMs in 46 states in the United States.
- And Dogecoin appears to follow in the footsteps of its successful predecessor, Bitcoin, which made headlines this year when Musk decided to accept it as a form of payment at his company, Tesla.
"You can now buy a Tesla car with Bitcoin," the tech billionaire wrote, adding: Tesla uses internal and open source software and runs Bitcoin nodes directly.
Musk also said: An option to pay with Bitcoin for people outside the US will be available later this year.
