Amazon opens hair salon in London
Amazon has announced that it plans to open its first hair salon in East London as the e-commerce giant continues to explore new business lines and promote some of the items it sells on its platform.
The Amazon Salon is located across two floors of a building in Spitalfields, a trendy area near London famous for shopping and restaurants, and it will be open seven days a week.
The hairdresser extends across 1,500 square feet, is less than five minutes walk from the UK headquarters of Amazon, and has enough space for about 5,000 people, but it is only available to Amazon employees.
Members of the public can make reservations in the coming weeks by calling, emailing, or visiting the salon.
- Amazon said: It is using Amazon Salon to try a number of new technologies, as the augmented reality technology allows customers to see the shape of hair in different colors, while another technology allows customers to point to a product in the salon and display information via the display screen.
- In order to comply with ongoing coronavirus regulations in the UK, Amazon plans to use screens to separate hairdressing chairs.
- Customers are also provided with a complimentary face mask and sterilizer, and temperature checks are performed.
- Amazon Salon follows the company’s launch of Amazon Professional Beauty in the UK, an online store that sells professional beauty products wholesale to companies.
- Amazon said there are currently no plans to open any other Amazon Salon other than the one in London.
- Since its launch as an online bookstore in 1994, Amazon has branched out into a number of industries, and today it operates businesses in cloud computing, streaming music and video, games, grocery shopping, and more.
- And if they wish to order the item, they can scan the QR code that takes them to the product page via Amazon.co.uk.
- Amazon said: It is also giving customers a Fire tablet to use during their appointment.
- She added: We designed this salon for clients to come and test some of the best technology, hair care products, and hair stylists, and we want this unique place to bring us one step closer to clients, and it will be a place where we can collaborate with the industry and test new technologies.
