Sony announces upcoming PSVR 2 with adaptive issues

Sony has unveiled the PSVR 2, its new virtual reality controller for the PS5.

The PSVR 2 looks more like a typical VR joystick than the current PlayStation's Move motion joysticks, and it also includes the same adaptive trigger technology found on the DualSense PS5 controller.

The PSVR 2 plays an important role in providing gamers with the virtual reality experience Sony is working to offer, as it aligns with its mission to achieve a deeper sense of existence and a stronger sense of immersion in virtual reality experiences.

The shape allows for a natural grip of the joystick during gameplay with a high degree of freedom, and there are no restrictions on how to move your hands, giving developers the ability to create unique gaming experiences.

And the new PSVR 2 allows gamers to feel and interact with games in a more profound way.

“This allows you to make more natural hand gestures while gaming,” says Hideaki Nishino, Head of Platform Planning and Management at PlayStation.

These joysticks also include a tracker for Sony's new augmented reality glasses via a ring at the bottom of the joystick.

These look much better than what is currently available via PS Move controllers, with better ergonomics as well.

“Sony's production, engineering and design teams have teamed up to build the new PSVR 2 from the ground up with the goal of taking a huge leap from current VR games,” says Nishino.

He added: The prototypes for the VR controller will be in the hands of the development community soon, and we can't wait to see what ideas they come up with and how to help the joystick bring their imaginations to life.

Sony hasn't shown the design of the next-generation virtual reality headset for the PS5 yet, but the company has revealed that it has an improved field of view, resolution, and even a single wire to make it easier to use.

Sony does not plan to release its virtual reality glasses for the PS5 in 2021, but the company is apparently preparing to test them with game developers soon.

There are several features, including key features from the DualSense controller, that align with Sony's vision of what next-generation virtual reality games could be.

The most important features of the PSVR 2 controller

Adaptive Triggers

Every VR controller includes an adaptive trigger button that adds perceptible tension when pressed, similar to what is found on a DualSense joystick, and when you take this kind of mechanical experience and apply it through virtual reality, it amplifies it to the next level.

 Haptic feedback

The new joystick has improved haptic feedback to its form factor, making every sense of the game world more impactful, tactile and accurate, and amplifies the extraordinary visual and audio experience that is so central to virtual reality.

 Finger touch detection

The joystick can detect your fingers without pressing where you place your thumb, index finger or middle finger, and this allows you to make more natural hand gestures while playing.

The VR joystick is tracked by the new VR headset via a tracking ring across the bottom of the joystick.

 Action buttons

The left joystick contains one analog stick, the triangle and square buttons, the L1 grip button, the L2 start button, the create button, the right joystick contains one analog stick, the cross and circle buttons, the R1 grip button, the R2 start button and the options button, and the fist button can be used to pick up objects inside the game.
