Kia shows first pictures of the EV6 electric vehicle
Kia has revealed the first images of the exterior and interior of the EV6 vehicle ahead of the car's world premiere in March.
The EV6 is the first BEV battery-powered electric vehicle built via the company's new electric vehicle platform - which it shares with parent company Hyundai - called Global Electrical System Standard, or E-GMP.
The upcoming electric vehicle is built according to the brand's new design philosophy, Opposites, which draws inspiration from the contradictions found in nature and humanity.
At the heart of the design philosophy is a new visual identity that evokes positive forces and natural energy, with contrasting combinations of sharp stylistic elements and sculptural forms.
The EV6 features distinctive styling inspired by a mixture of hatchback and crossovers, and is Kia's first electric vehicle to be influenced by a new design philosophy that embodies Kia's renewed focus on electricity.
Karim Habib, Senior Vice President and Head of Kia's Global Design Center, said: The EV6 is a showcase of advanced human-centered design and electric power.
He added: We strongly believe that the EV6 is a compelling and appropriate model for the new electric vehicle market, through which we aim to create a distinctive and impactful design using a combination of advanced, high-tech features in rich volumes, while providing a unique space as a future electric vehicle.
The philosophy rests on five major design pillars: Bold for Nature, Joy for Reason, Power to Progress, Technology for Life, and Tension for Serenity.
The vehicle's exterior design exemplifies the power to evolve, and the EV6 is an evolution of the brand's strengths in design, and is the culmination of the skills and experience gathered during the design transformation spearheaded by Kia.
The distinctive daytime running lights at the front display a sleek, modern look and are part of the car's Digital Tiger Face, a design development that evokes the spirit of Kia's Tiger Nose Grille in the era of electric cars.
The design of the headlights also includes a dynamic sequential lighting pattern, and the reduced air intake visually widens the front of the vehicle, underlining its high-tech profile.
Air is channeled through and under the flat floor of the car to obtain optimum aerodynamics, and this is part of improving airflow from the front.
The Kia E-GMP platform provides more space than previous Kia EVs based on the current model's architecture.
The EV6's interior demonstrates an innovative use of space, creating a unique spatial and driving experience.
One of the most striking elements of the new interior is the HD curved audiovisual screen and AVN navigation screen, as it creates a sense of openness.
The screen extends from the steering wheel to the center of the vehicle, and displays a driver's instrument cluster, an infotainment and navigation system above the center console.
The screen provides an immersive driver experience, while the minimal physical buttons allow for an organized and comfortable driving experience.
