How does the proximity share feature work on Android and how does it differ from AirDrop?

In August 2020, Google launched a feature called (Nearby Share) to help share files between Android phones quickly and easily, as the feature is similar to the feature (AirDrop) that Apple provides to users of its devices.

How does the proximity share feature work on Android and how does it differ from AirDrop?

It is expected that this feature will be the first choice for most Android phone users to share files instead of using external applications, so how does the close sharing feature work and what are its most prominent features and what are the differences between it and the AriDrop feature provided by Apple?

First: How does the Close Share feature work?

Both features use a combination of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection technologies to transfer data quickly between phones, and this data can be images, documents, URL links or applications, and the Close Share feature works in all phones running Android OS version 6 or later, but The feature does not work with iPhones and vice versa.

For the Close Share feature to work, you must turn on the Bluetooth connection in your phone, as well as allow the feature to use the location settings

When you want to share anything with someone near you through your Android phone; You can use the nearby sharing feature that searches for nearby devices, then automatically chooses the best protocol for fast and easy sharing to use based on what you send and what your connection looks like. For example: You will use the (peer-to-peer) network if you are completely offline, or other sharing protocols that include: Bluetooth, DLE (Bluetooth Low Energy), Hotspot or WebRTC, and more.

There is a setting within the feature settings that provides the ability to use data when sharing small files, however, through the settings, you can set the use of a network connection (Wi-Fi) instead of using mobile data, if you want to preserve your internet package

Second: How can you customize the feature?

The proximity sharing feature allows you to easily customize file sharing, as you can change the name of your device, which is the name that other users see during sharing, and how to transfer data through the use of a mobile data connection or a Wi-Fi connection, and you can also share files offline if you want that.

You can also specify who can see your phone when the feature is activated, as you can allow all contacts on your phone to see you or select specific contacts only after the feature is turned on in your phone, but if you do not do this, no one will be able to see you, and you will not receive any prompts when sending a file What's up with you.

There is also an option that allows you to hide the appearance of the phone, which means that no one can see it until you make it visible, as you will receive a notification in your phone if there is another phone nearby has the feature activated, and then whatever option you choose, you will always be asked to confirm the transfer Once the sender selects your phone as the destination, the file does not affect your ability to send files as well or decide which phones you will be able to see when you do so.

When you start sharing, you can simply choose the phone you want to transfer the files to, and the recipient will then be asked to confirm or stop the file transfer, and you do not have to keep the transfer screen open while sending and receiving files, as you can hide them and open any other application because the transfer process will continue in the background. To be completed.

Third: What are the main differences between it and Apple's AirDrop feature?

Google's Near Share feature and Apple's AirDrop feature are very similar, but they differ in how to keep the phone visible, as the AirDrop feature offers only two options, either your phone is visible or invisible, so you will not see a prompt to become visible if you are hidden and someone is using AirDrop is nearby.
