Carbon 1 MK II .. the world's first carbon fiber phone
German company Carbon Mobile has announced Carbon 1 MK II, the world's first carbon fiber smartphone, at a price of € 800
This means that the outer cover of the phone provides structural integrity with no internal supports, which makes the phone very light (125 grams) and thin (6.3 mm).
Despite all its great properties, carbon fiber has a big downside when used in smartphones.
Carbon fibers block radio waves, which is why we see them used sparingly, but the company’s team has spent years working on this problem and fixing it.
The key to solving this problem is HyRECM technology, which was developed over a period of four years. This technology combines high-quality carbon fibers with a composite material that allows radio waves to pass through.
It took the company 3 hours to create the cover in 2017, but it's only 30 minutes now that the process is optimized.
Despite reaching this speed, which is 6 times the old speed, the process still requires an experienced engineer to manually cut the materials and supervise the forging process.
Given that the mono design has no internal frame, all components are connected with the same carbon fiber.
Plastic makes up less than 5 percent of the materials used to build the phone, and every Carbon Mobile phone can be dismantled and turned into raw materials.
Carbon 1 MK II contains an AMOLED screen measuring 6 inches, with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels, and an aspect ratio of 18: 9.
And the screen is protected by the thinnest Gorilla Glass Victus panel yet - it measures just 0.4mm.
The phone runs Android 10, but the Android 11 update is coming in the second quarter, and Carbon Mobile promises two years of software updates and monthly security patches.
The Carbon 1 MK II is powered by the Helio P90 chipset, which is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space.
And the hybrid dual card slot can house a microSD card if you need more internal storage space.
A 3000 mAh battery can be charged up to 50 percent in half an hour.
As for the camera, the device includes a 16-megapixel dual rear camera, and it seems that both have the same focal length and the same f / 2.0 aperture, while there is a 20-megapixel camera on the front.
The phone does not support fifth generation networks, but it includes support for Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and a USB-C 3.1 port.
There is also no 3.5 mm headphone port, but there is NFC, and there is also a fingerprint reader installed on the side.
The Carbon 1 MK II can be initially ordered online today from the company's official website, with shipping to begin later this month, and the phone will also appear in regular stores in Germany within two weeks.
