Kia markets its next EV6 electric car
Kia has revealed the first official images of the EV6, the first electric BEV battery-powered vehicle built on the company's new electric vehicle platform - which it shares with parent company Hyundai - called the Global Standard Electrical System, or E-GMP.
The photo shows that the car has a mixture of hatchback and four-door crossovers and a futuristic look.
The EV6 is Kia's first next-generation BEV battery-powered electric vehicle developed under a new design philosophy that embodies Kia's renewed focus on electricity.
Karim Habib, Senior Vice President and Head of Kia's Global Design Center, said: The EV6 is the embodiment of both our brand purpose and our new design philosophy, and is designed to inspire every journey by providing an innate and natural experience that improves the daily lives of our customers, providing Simple, intuitive, and integrated user ownership.
“Our goal is to design the physical experience of our brand and create bold, original and innovative electric cars.
As part of the company's branding shift, new Kia electric vehicles designated for batteries are being named according to a new naming strategy.
The new approach brings simplicity and consistency to Kia's terminology for electric vehicles in all global markets.
All Kia electric vehicles powered by Kia's new dedicated BEV battery begin with the EV prefix that makes it easy for consumers to understand which Kia is fully electric, followed by a number that corresponds to the vehicle's position in the lineup.
Hyundai is taking a similar approach, using the Ioniq sub-brand of its electric vehicles and following it up with a number, and the Ioniq 5 goes on sale in the fall, with the Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 7 coming in 2022 and 2024.
The EV6 was designed and engineered to embody the new Kia brand logo, inspiring movement, and will be shown for the first time in the world during the first quarter of 2021.
Kia says it plans to introduce 11 new electric cars by 2026, and 7 of these cars are being built via Hyundai's E-GMP platform.
The EV6 is expected to share a 77.4 kW battery with the Ioniq 5, and a single electric motor that powers the rear wheels should be the standard option on Kia.
Kia hopes electric cars, hybrid cars and plug-in hybrid electric cars will account for 40 percent of its total sales by 2030.
