Jeep Magneto .. an electric Wrangler

Jeep has unveiled a new electric vehicle named the Wrangler Magneto, however, it's not the electric Jeep Wrangler you might get, and that's just because it's a concept car.

Jeep aims to show that electric cars can be more than just sedans with a new concept based on the classic Wrangler SUV.

The car's design is based on the regular fuel-driven Wrangler Rubicon of 2020, but it has a battery and electric motor that could appeal to off-road enthusiasts and provide up to 273 pounds of torque and 285 hp.

However, full torque comes faster, allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.8 seconds.

There are four battery packs that power the 800-volt electrical system, according to the company, which did not share how much the Wrangler Magneto can deliver without the need for charging.

Jeep has provided the Wrangler Magneto with a six-speed manual transmission, and although this may come as a surprise, given that most electric cars have a single-speed transmission, the Wrangler Magneto is not the first electric vehicle with a multi-speed transmission concept.

Ford showcased its all-electric, six-speed manual transmission Mustang, the Mustang Lithium, in November 2019.

Jeep parent Fiat Chrysler has been slow to adopt electric vehicles, and with a GMC Hummer EV and a Rivian R1T truck on the horizon very close, Fiat Chrysler may risk losing customers if it does not offer an electric version of Jeep, one of its most iconic cars.

And while Fiat Chrysler has been making some bold promises about its plans for electric cars, the Wrangler Magneto lacks some substance to show what kind of electric Wrangler might be making anytime soon.

The automaker plans to test the Wrangler Magneto on several future safaris to see how it can handle all-wheel drive conditions in the real world, however, it remains to be seen if this concept vehicle might be produced.
