When Google Assistant is not playing movies from whatever service you use it is usually due to not having enough permissions set in the app. And when he is not able to play movies from a particular service, it is usually because you are using the incorrect Google account, or you have not linked the streaming service to the Google Assistant, among other reasons.

So today, we will review 3 methods to help you troubleshoot this problem:

1- Check the permissions in the Google Assistant app:

When Google Assistant cannot play movies, the first thing you should check is: Does the Google Assistant app have the correct permissions in the phone to play movies, as the assistant needs to allow it to access the microphone as a minimum to be able to hear your voice commands.

In addition to that, it also needs access to a variety of other permissions to carry out all the tasks it can do and to check and adjust the permissions, you can follow the following steps:

  • Go to (Settings) on your Android phone.
  • Click on the option (applications and notifications) Apps & notifications, then click on the option (Google) Google.
  • Click on Permissions.
  • On the screen that appears, toggle the button next to Every Permission On.

Note: Assistant may not need all of these permissions to play movies, but granting them access to all permissions will allow you to know if the problem is with the permissions or not, and after making sure that the assistant can now play the movies after turning on all the permissions, you can later turn off the permissions that You don't want the assistant to reach it.

2- Make sure you are using the correct Google account:

By default, the Google Assistant will play movies from the Google Play Movie Store, and then you must use the same account that you use with the assistant in the Google TV application, as the presence of multiple Google accounts and the lack of a match between the assistant for each account may cause problems to occur.

To check the Google accounts that you use with the assistant and the Google Play Movie store and change them if necessary, follow these steps:

  • Open the Google Assistant app on your phone.
  • Click on the option (Account) Account.
  • Click the Google account you want to use with the assistant, then click your account picture.
  • Open the (Google TV) app.
  • Verify that the account shown on the left is the same account used in the (Google TV) application.
  • If not, click on the account image associated with the account that you have specified in the (Google TV) application.

Note: If you do not see the Google account that you want to use, click on the add account option and follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

3- Connecting your Google account to movie streaming services:

The assistant can play movies from a large number of video streaming services, but it only works if you have linked your Google account with these services, such as Netflix or HBO, and to do so, follow these steps:

  • Open the Google Assistant app on your phone, then tap your account picture.
  • From the menu that appears, press the Settings option.
  • On the screen that appears, scroll down, then tap the Video & Photos option.

  • Click on the video streaming service that you want to link with the assistant, then click on the (Link) option.
  • Click on the option (link account) LINK ACCOUNT.
  • Enter your login information, then click on the option (Sign in and Link).
  • Select your account in the video streaming service, then press the Confirm option.
