Budapest hosts the Gladbach and Manchester City match in the Champions League

The German football club Borussia Monchengladbach announced this evening, Monday, that the first-leg match will be held against Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, on February 24.

The reason for the relocation of the match venue is due to the German authorities imposing an entry ban on countries with high risks of coronavirus mutations, and this ban continues until at least the seventeenth of this month.

The match was scheduled to be held at Borussia Park, the stronghold of Gladbach, but the European Football Association (UEFA) decided to transfer it to the Hungarian capital.

"UEFA can confirm that the match between Borussia Monchengladbach and Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 will be held at the Puskas Arena in Budapest," a UEFA statement said on Monday.

"UEFA would like to thank Borussia Monchengladbach and Manchester City for their close cooperation and support, as well as the Hungarian Football Association for their assistance and agreement to host the match," the statement added.
